  • Ms. Marriyum Aurangzeb holds an M.Sc in Environment and Development from King’s College London, London University and Masters in Economics from Quid-e-Azam University, Pakistan. She has held several strategic portfolios in planning and Development for Environmental Conservation and has been pivotal in the ratification of International Agreements and pursued with great passion the implementation of Millennium Development Goals in Pakistan. She is globally credited with pioneering the first Sustainable Development Goals establish in the National Assembly, the first of its kind in the world.
  • Ms. Marriyum has dedicated her professional career in pursuing, with great success, the conservation and environmental agenda in Pakistan with a tenure spanning a decade with the globally renowned World Wildlife Fund for Nature-Pakistan (WWF-Pakistan). Whilst with WWF-Pakistan she had held a diverse portfolio of responsibilities, including spearheading Global Campaigns and has been instrumental in formulating key environmental and social developmental policy at the Global, Regional and National Level.
  • Ms. Marriyum, through the environment platform, has driven an innovative initiative that has gained her notoriety across wide landscape within the global and national infrastructure ranging from the education, private, and public sectors. Her success is attributed to being able to provide direction and focus to complex concepts and initiatives, whilst utilizing her interpersonal and negotiation skills to drive consensus amongst diametrically opposing groups.
  • From 2004 to 2013, her responsibilities at WWF-Pakistan included work planning, Global and National net-working and lobbying, advocacy, environmental education, media liaison for environment, fundraising for financial sustainability, cross-sectoral programme development, and liaison and coordination with donor agencies, stakeholders and partner organizations ranging from Policy to all the stages of Programme Development and Project Management.

  • Ms. Marriyum Aurangzeb has a strong political pedigree and belongs to a noted political family from Rawalpindi. Being the granddaughter of Raja Kala Khan, Member Legislative Assembly of Pakistan’s first constituent Assembly, her mother and maternal aunt have remained in the forefront of leading struggles for democratic restoration and constitutional rights in Pakistan for over 3 decades. Her mother, Begum Tahira Augranzeb is a two-time member of the National Assembly and Begum Najma Hameed, her maternal aunt has served as a Provincial Minister, Member of Provincial Assembly and is now completing her second term as Senator.
  • Ms. Marriyum, from a very young age developed a political understanding and acumen with political activism a natural mechanism. At a very tender age, Ms. Marriyum started assisting her mother in constituency work while took an active part in the restoration struggle during the era of political turmoil in Pakistan. Ms. Marriyum was at the forefront of democratic rights movement whilst her mother and aunt were incarcerated for their unwavering commitment to democracy.
  • She started her political career as member National Assembly in 2013, Ms. Marriyum took a lead role in assisting the Hon’ble Speaker to design and implement his reforms agenda in the working of National Assembly and its Secretariat. She led the team to write the 4-year Strategic Plan of the National Assembly; devised the unprecedented HR policy to drive efficiency in the National Assembly and is a driving force for the e-Parliament, a project to modernize the working of the House; initiation of Parliamentary studies Programme in 35 Universities across Pakistan; establishment of Legislative Drafting Council for Parliamentarians; and IT and communication plan for the Parliament. In addition, as Convener of SDGs Taskforce, Ms. Marriyum developed the blue print for the Parliamentary Oversight reforms-based agenda.
  • In view of her demonstrated achievements both in the corporate sector and political administration, the Prime Minister of Pakistan appointed Ms. Marriyum as the Parliamentary Secretary for Ministry of Interior and Narcotic Control. Ms. Marriyum was the first woman to be appointed to this post. Her performance as Parliamentary Secretary has been widely acknowledged by numerous parliamentary watch programmes. She was appointed the Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting on 31st October 2016 and later she was appointed as Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting.
  • Ms. Marriyum Aurangzeb has been member of National Assembly since 2018. She is also Information Secretary, Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz. She was appointed as Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting in April, 2022.
